St. Patrick is a fully wired school with more than 50 networked computers. Students have access to computer technology and high-speed Internet in every classroom and in the computer lab. Mr. Michael Hofner, the schools technology coordinator, assists classroom teachers with integrating technology into the curriculum. Every class -- from kindergarten through 7th grade -- spends time in the computer lab every week. There, they learn keyboarding, word processing, desktop publishing, data base use, spreadsheets, multimedia and the appropriate use of the Internet.
Increasingly, computers and the Internet are being integrated into the curriculum. Equally important, students are beginning to acquire information literacy -- how and when to use computer and Internet resources effectively.
Internet Use
Computers available in the Computer Lab and in classrooms have access to the Internet. Computer access is controlled by the staff, and a teacher is always present while students are accessing the Internet. Special hardware provides content filtering and virus protection for the school network.
Each student and faculty member must sign a Computer and Internet Use Agreement that states they have read and agree to abide by the school's Computer and Internet Use Policy.
